Headphones and glasses mix like oil and water. The constant digging into the side of your head can be a nightmare. Unfortunately there’s no ultimate solution, but some headphones are more glasses friendly than others and there are a few things you can try which help to ease the pressure.

In this guide, we will take a look at some tips for wearing headphones with glasses comfortably. We will then talk about which type of headphones are the most glasses friendly, and finally, I recommend some headphones which glasses wearers have found to be comfortable.

Tips for Wearing Headphones with Glasses

As well choosing the right headphones for glasses wearers, there are also a few things you can do to make any pair of headphones more comfortable.

  • Thin frames – This one might not be the most convenient, but it can have a big effect. If you have multiple pairs of glasses or are planning on purchasing another pair, headphones will generally be more comfortable with thinner frames. Even better, you can try VR Frames. These are designed for VR glasses, but are also perfect for wearing with headphones.
  • Adjust the headphones – Try adjusting the headphones to find the most comfortable position on your head. You might find moving the headphones forwards or backwards eases the pressure they out on the glasses frames.
  • Reposition the headphones – If you keep the headphones in the same position for a long period of time it can become very uncomfortable. By periodically repositioning the headphones you can prevent one area of your head taking all of the pressure.
  • Reposition your glasses – You can also try repositioning your glasses for a similar effect. Lifting them up from your ears slightly can stop the pressure building up in one spot.

By experimenting with different headphone and glasses positions, hopefully you will be able to find a combination that reduces the pressure on the sides of your head and offers a much more comfortable experience.

Which Headphones are the Most Glasses Friendly?

Over-ear headphones are better for glasses wearers.

It’s probably obvious that the most comfortable headphones for glasses wearers are in-ear headphones as these aren’t affected by glasses at all. But I’m assuming you are looking for headphones which go over your head in which case over-ear headphones are best for glasses.

There are two types of headphones which go over your head: over-ear and on-ear. As the name suggests, on-ear headphones sit on your ears. Most people who wear glasses find these uncomfortable because they push down on your ears. Over-ear headphones go over your ears so they aren’t actually touching your ears in most cases and are far more comfortable.

Over-ear headphones can still be uncomfortable with glasses though. They don’t push your ears against the glasses but they still push your glasses against your head. This is especially true if they are too tight or the ear pads aren’t very soft. The headphones we have chosen are over-ear headphones that have been recommended by glasses wearing users as being comfortable.

Something to take into account is that everybody’s heads and ears are different. Unfortunately, a pair of headphones which are comfortable for one person might be hell for you. There’s no way of telling which headphones will be the most comfortable without trying them on, but these are a good starting point.

We have chosen a variety of headphones from open-back to closed-back, wired to wireless and budget-friendly to high end.
